The concept of Lean Manufacturing comes to us from Toyota.  Lean manufacturing is based on the idea of increasing profits through efficiency.  Toyota was the first company to try and take all of the waste out of the process of producing a product.  In Toyota’s case this of course pertained to the process of manufacturing automobiles.  Each aspect of the production method was analyzed and a system of manufacturing was put into place to maximize the efforts of employees to produce a product as efficiently as possible.  This obviously worked out very well for Toyota and soon many other companies followed suit.
These companies utilized the lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement processes that Toyota had devised. This created a need for workers to do these lean manufacturing jobs.
